The late, great Leslie Nielsen

Airplane! is, of course, too awesome for words, so there's no need for me to go into the details of its cinematic greatness. One of the bes things about the film is the great Leslie Nielsen. For about 10 years, from the late 80's to the mid 90's, any comedy starring Nielsen was cinematic gold in the eyes of my generation. Not all of them were that good - well, frankly, most of them weren't that good - but Nielsen was always hilarious. There's also just something so cool and old fashioned about the humor of the era, satirizing and spoofing films, culture and the establishment in ways that are neither cynical nor mean but rather good humored and jovial.

Here are some of Nielsen's greatest bits from Airplane! This is in no way to undermine his magnificent work in The Naked Gun series (or, for that matter, the underrated Dracula: Dead and Loving It - yes dammitt! Underrated!) but Airplane! definitely contains some of my all-time favorite Leslie Nielsen moments.
